Ken Maus Fighting for His Life - Prayers and Wishes Please
Our Sister and SLP extraordinaire Kelli Applebaum is going through a very difficult time right now. Kelli’s dad, Ken Maus was in a house fire last night and is now in the hospital. This morning, Kelli told us her dad was in stable condition and that the family was asked by the Dr. to not visit. However, just as I sat down to write this issue of The Straight Shooter, I got an email from Kelli saying her father’s condition has been elevated to critical and the doctor is asking the family to come now.

Kelli asked us to pray for her father, so I asked her if I could write an article asking you all to pray as well. She said yes, and here I am asking everybody to pray for Kelli’s dad, Ken Maus. Not religious? Then please make a wish that Kelli’s dad will be OK.

Kelli says her dad was a Marine before the Vietnam war, and she is confident he will fight this battle in “True Marine Fashion."

Veterans Day Is Today

Please don’t forget that today is Veterans day. Veterans Day is kinda weird for a vet. Most people have no problem saying, “Hey today is my birthday," but have you ever heard a vet say, “Hey today is Veteran’s Day and I am a Vet”? Maybe it has happened, but I don’t think I have ever heard it. It just feels so weird to veterans.
Nevertheless, on behalf of all of you, I would like to say Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans. And thank you for your courage and self- sacrifice. Despite your fellow Americans' different views on different wars and policies, all American’s know that our country would be in deep doo-doo without you.

My Speech Last Night After Getting the Gold Sponsor Award from the TPTA Southeastern District

For the second year in a row, Stambush has sponsored enough events to receive the Gold Sponsor award. Consequently, each sponsor got to talk. Here is some of what I said as best as I can remember.

“I’d like to thank you all for having me, and I’d like to thank the other contract companies who hire inexperienced new grads for motivating me to come to the SED meetings. I figure there should be at least one staffing company saying, “Inexperienced new grads do not belong in contract.

I want Stambush to stand for fairness, competence, and reliability, and I don’t think it is fair for inexperienced new graduates to go into contract. I come to a lot of these things, and I hear staffing companies talk about inviting you all to their 'Meet and Greets.' I would like to say that I do not want to meet you or greet you. You should go to work in a hospital or other permanent setting for at least a year before you go into contract.
While it is true I do not want to meet or greet you, I do want to help you. So you all should feel free to call me for anything."

Some Quotes About Life

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”
― Mae West
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
― Albert Einstein
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”
― Dr. Seuss, Happy Birthday to You!

Some Veterans Day Quotes

"This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave."
― Elmer Davis
"The more we sweat in peace the less we bleed in war. (Scott here - this quote was written on almost every Marine Corps. barracks wall I ever saw during my four years)"
― Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit
"Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die."
― G.K. Chesterton
